Fishing Trip RV Rental in the Florida Keys

Reviewed by Ben Kiser, RV rental operator and fleet consultant.

A fishing trip in the Keys with the RV as your base and the boat behind it. Pick the campground for the boat first, because the state parks are the hardest place to bring one.

How this trip works

Plenty of people come to the Keys to fish, and an RV puts you a few minutes from the water every morning. The question is the boat, and the campgrounds answer it very differently.

The state parks are the hard case. Curry Hammock has no boat launch and no parking for boat trailers, and does not allow powerboats to be launched. Pennekamp has closed one of its two boat ramps and its pump-out, and significantly reduced boat trailer parking, since July 22, 2026, with no end date given.

The private parks are where boats are planned for. Sunshine Key requires a slip reservation before arrival for any boat over 18 ft. Big Pine Key RV Park's canal-side rental trailers sit by boat slips, booked separately. Key Largo Kampground & Marina sets a 3-night minimum over lobster mini season.

Then count what is parked on the site. Boyd's, Jolly Roger and Grassy Key each allow one RV and one vehicle per site, and none says whether a boat trailer counts as the vehicle. Ask before you tow one in. On the road, a motorhome towing a single-axle boat trailer is a 3-axle rig on Card Sound Road: $1.99 more per crossing on SunPass, with discounts barred when towing.

The fact that decides it

What the source says
Curry Hammock has no boat launch or boat trailer parking. Pennekamp has reduced boat trailer parking and closed one ramp. Sunshine Key requires a slip reservation for boats over 18 ft. Boyd's, Jolly Roger and Grassy Key allow one RV and one vehicle per site.
What to do about it
For a boat, book a private park with slips or trailer space before anything else, and ask whether the boat trailer counts as your one vehicle.
If you do not
Arriving at a state park with a boat and nowhere to put its trailer, or a site that will not take the RV, the car and the boat together.

What the RV gets you here

  • Your own base by the water, with full hookups at most private parks.
  • Sunshine Key takes slip reservations, so the boat can be booked with the stay.
  • Canal-side rental trailers at Big Pine Key RV Park, with boat slips booked separately.

Before you book

  1. 1Book the slip, launch or trailer space before the campsite, and the campsite before the RV.
  2. 2Ask the host whether the RV may tow a boat, and get it in the booking messages. Outdoorsy listings do not state it in the feed.
  3. 3Ask the park whether a boat trailer counts as your one vehicle per site.
  4. 4Card Sound Road takes no cash. A 3-axle rig is $4.17 on SunPass and $6.27 by plate, plus a $2.50 monthly fee by plate.
  5. 5Pennekamp's construction notice gives no end date. Call the park before planning a launch there.

Questions people ask

Can I launch a boat at Curry Hammock State Park?

No. Its reservation page says the park has no boat launch and no parking for boat trailers, and the park page says powerboats and other motorized vessels may not be launched.

Can I bring a boat trailer to Pennekamp?

With difficulty. Since July 22, 2026, construction has closed one of its two boat ramps and the boat pump-out, and significantly reduced boat trailer parking. The park gives no end date, so call before you plan around it.

Does a boat trailer count as my vehicle at a Keys RV park?

Nobody says. Boyd's, Jolly Roger and Grassy Key each allow one camping unit and one vehicle per site, and none addresses a boat trailer. Ask the office in writing before you arrive with one.

What is the Card Sound Road toll towing a boat?

A motorhome towing a single-axle boat trailer is 3 axles: $4.17 on SunPass or $6.27 by plate, against $2.18 and $3.28 for the motorhome alone. That is $1.99 more per crossing on SunPass. Discount programs do not apply to a vehicle towing a boat or trailer, and there is no cash lane.
