Travel Trailer Rental in the Florida Keys

Reviewed by Ben Kiser, RV rental operator and fleet consultant.

A travel trailer is the RV most Keys renters never tow. The host brings it down US-1 to your site and takes it away again, and you keep your own car for the run into town. It is also the cheapest way to stay in an RV here, around $110 a night in the middle of the market.

Which of these suit each Keys campground

Of the 38 listed right now that publish a size, here is how many sit inside each published limit.

Outdoorsy does not say whether a trailer's listed length includes the hitch, and Sandspur counts it. Ask the host.

Some links on this page are affiliate links. A booking made after following one earns a commission from the marketplace. It adds nothing to your price and does not change which listings appear here.

What a Travel Trailer costs for a Keys stay

Seven nights at the $110 median is $770 before tax, the host's fees and delivery. That is $1,022 less than the same week in the middle Class C, and in the Keys you give up very little for it: the RV sits on one site either way, because Key West keeps anything over 20 ft off its streets. 18 of the 38 trailers publish a weekly discount, and 9 take long-term bookings, the most of any class.

How a Travel Trailer gets to your site

37 of the 38 trailers that can serve the Keys offer delivery. Almost all of them start on the mainland, in Miami and Homestead, so the host's delivery range decides which key it can reach: 23 reach Key West. Of the 37 listings across the market that publish a per-mile delivery fee, the median is $4 a mile. Key West is 137 road miles from the Princeton rental lots, the nearest mainland pickup, but most hosts keep their RVs further north in Miami, so the real fee is the host's quote. Three campgrounds also rent RVs already parked on a site: Boyd's on Stock Island rents RVs set up on its own sites, Big Pine Key RV Park rents Airstreams and other travel trailers, and Sunshine Key rents vacation campers.

How RV delivery to the Keys works

Where a Travel Trailer can stay in the Keys

At Bahia Honda, 10 of the 34 whose hosts deliver that far are listed at 23 ft or under, short enough for the Sandspur loop, which measures hitch to bumper. Outdoorsy does not say whether a listed length includes the hitch, so ask the host for the hitch-to-bumper figure in writing. Every trailer that reaches Pennekamp, Curry Hammock or Leo's is listed inside their caps. Jolly Roger in Marathon is the one campground that says it works with companies that deliver and set up rented RVs; every other park is silent, so ask the office before you book the trailer.

  • The park page says most sites take 40 ft. All 38 whose hosts deliver that far are listed inside it. The reservation system lists 62, so the site you are assigned is what has to fit.

  • The cap is 70 ft. All 35 whose hosts deliver that far are listed inside it. Length is not the problem here; the 14-night limit is.

  • Sandspur stops at 23 ft, hitch to bumper. 10 of the 34 whose hosts deliver that far are listed inside it. Outdoorsy does not say whether a listed length includes the hitch, so ask the host for the hitch-to-bumper figure in writing. Buttonwood, the loop for larger rigs, publishes no cap of its own.

  • Leo's takes 42 ft, counting bumpers and racks. All 23 whose hosts deliver that far are listed inside it. On Key West city streets the 20 ft limit counts an RV and the vehicle towing it together, so a towed trailer never qualifies.

Every Keys state park caps a stay at 14 nights, and Long Key takes no RVs at all. Booking a state park site with a rented RV

What you get in a Travel Trailer

Also listed as a towable trailer. Counts are what the hosts publish on their own listings, so confirm anything that decides the trip on the listing itself.

Sleeping

27 of the 38 sleep six or more. A trailer has no seatbelts, so everyone travels in the car.

Size

13 ft to 37 ft, median 29.5 ft. That is the trailer as the host lists it, and Outdoorsy does not say whether it includes the hitch.

Licence

You do not tow it unless you want to. 37 of the 38 listings offer delivery, so the hitch, the tow vehicle and the drive down US-1 are theirs. If you collect it yourself instead, the tow rating of your own vehicle is your problem to check, and the host is the one with the trailer's loaded weight.

Towing and handover

Nothing to drive once it is set up. Boyd's rate sheet lists a $50 charge for double and triple axle trailers, so ask the host how many axles it has. 27 of the 38 accept a renter aged 21.

What is aboard

  • A toilet on 37 of the 38 and an inside shower on 37
  • Air conditioning on 38
  • An onboard generator on 12, which matters little on a hookup site
  • Pet friendly on 29, set by the host. Big Pine Key RV Park allows no pets in its own rental trailers

Who it suits

  • The lowest nightly cost, at a $110 median
  • A week or a month on one site, with your own car for Key West
  • Small loops: 10 are listed short enough for Sandspur at Bahia Honda

Travel Trailer rental questions

The 38 Travel Trailer listings that can serve the Keys run $68 to $149 a night, with the middle of the market at $110. Seven nights at that rate is $770 before tax and the host's fees. The campsite is a separate bill: a Keys state park is $36 a night plus tax, a $7 RV utility fee and a $6.70 reservation fee, and private parks add 12.5% tax to their published rates.

37 of the 38 listings offer delivery, at a fee and to a range each host sets, and 23 reach as far as Key West. Jolly Roger in Marathon says it works with companies that deliver and set up RVs. Florida State Parks publishes no rule on delivered rentals, and most private parks say nothing, so ask the park office before you book the RV.

In the Sandspur loop, 10 of the 34 Travel Trailer listings that reach Bahia Honda are listed at 23 ft or under, the loop's limit measured hitch to bumper. Outdoorsy does not say whether a trailer's listed length includes the hitch, so get the hitch-to-bumper figure from the host. Buttonwood takes larger rigs and publishes no cap of its own; the reservation system's park-wide maximum is 48.

Only at a campground. Key West code keeps any RV over 20 ft long or 7 ft wide off city streets, occupied or not, and bans sleeping in a vehicle on public property. 6 of the 38 Travel Trailer listings are 20 ft or under, and width is rarely published. Boyd's on Stock Island, Leo's, Bluewater Key and Geiger Key are the parks to look at.

27 of the 38 sleep six or more. A trailer has no seatbelts, so everyone travels in the car. Jolly Roger allows six people per site, so count heads against the campground as well as the RV.

Book the site, then pick the Travel Trailer

In the Keys the campsites run out before the RVs do. Hold the site you want, then open a listing, put your dates in and ask the host about delivery to that address.
