Renting an RV for Big Pine Key
Two Lower Keys parks rent an RV already parked on a site, so you can skip the delivery entirely.
Big Pine Key RV Park, at MM 33, rents 27 ft Airstreams that sleep 4, and Forest River, Premier and Grand Design travel trailers, all parked on its own sites near the canal and Coupon Bight. No pets in the rental trailers. Bring your own RV and the park asks you to call first if it is over 36 ft.
Sunshine Key RV Resort, at MM 39 on Ohio Key, rents Vacation Campers on site, one bedroom sleeping 4 or two bedrooms sleeping 5. It is the one Lower Keys park with pet-friendly rental campers: two pets at most and a $200 pet fee, $150 of it refundable. Its seasonal sites start at $5,033 a month.

- Big Pine Key RV Park and Sunshine Key rent RVs that already sit on their sites, so no delivery fee applies. Neither publishes a rate. A delivered RV that can reach Big Pine Key lists at about $165 a night, and delivery is extra. Our road miles from the Princeton rental lots run 88 to Marathon and 137 to Key West, with Big Pine Key between them. At the typical published $4 a mile, the drop costs between $352 and $548 each way. Those miles are from the Princeton rental lots, the nearest mainland pickup. Most hosts keep their RVs further north in Miami, so the real fee is the host's quote.
- What to do
- Get a quote from both parks for your dates before you pay a host's deposit. Set it against the delivered RV's nightly rate plus the delivery fee spread over your nights. The shorter the stay, the more that fee weighs: even the low end, $352 one way, adds $117 a night across three nights and $50 across a week.
- If you skip it
- Skip the comparison and a short stay can carry a delivery fee larger than two nights of the RV itself. With a dog the choice narrows: Big Pine Key RV Park allows no pets in its rental trailers, Sunshine Key's pet-friendly campers carry a $200 pet fee with $150 refundable, and 61 of the 81 listings that serve the Keys are marked pet friendly.

- For Sandspur, get the hitch-to-bumper length from the host in writing, because Outdoorsy does not say whether a trailer's length includes the hitch. For anything bigger, book Buttonwood, which takes large RVs. Buttonwood publishes no length cap of its own; the reservation system's park-wide maximum is 48 ft, and all 71 publish a length within it.
- If you skip it
- A rig over the Sandspur limit cannot make the loop's turns, and the park says so in those words. Cancel a state park site more than a day out and you lose $17.75 plus the $6.70 reservation fee; inside a day, the first night as well.

Boyd's and Jolly Roger both quote 12.5% on top of their rates. A long stay can fall outside the state tax two ways: a written lease for longer than 6 months signed up front, or 6 months of continuous residence with the tax paid for those months. The statute names tourist and trailer camps, not RV parks, in that section, so confirm how your park applies it with the Florida Department of Revenue. State park camping fees in Monroe County already include a $2.50 nightly county surcharge.
